At the Monday June 22, 2020 School Board meeting, the directors unanimously approved this resolution with a recommitment on equity.
CVSD Statement on Equity:
In light of national and local protests and conversations about racism in our society, Central Valley School District wants to reiterate our commitment to safe, positive, and engaging learning environments for every student, to fostering open communication and incorporating new knowledge into practice. These commitments mean we must fight racism and discrimination of any type in our school community. CVSD has strict policies against discrimination and harassment.
Like many institutions around the country, and in our community, we acknowledge that we have work to do. We are committed to doing that work. Our School Board has begun by holding several work sessions on equity and by committing to go through implicit bias training. We have partnered with Hanover Research to provide us a framework as we look at our district policies, practices, and our strategic plan through an equity lens.
As an educational institution, we have an obligation to create dialogue and foster learning for our students. We applaud our students, teachers, and principals who are already engaging in important conversations on these topics as they work to build inclusive communities in our schools. We will continue communicating about our progress.
We also invite feedback from our students and parents as we work together on ensuring our district fosters an inclusive and respectful environment for all.
